Ben Taranto is an interdisciplinary artist with a sculptural and installation based practice. His practice shifts between art, the earth sciences and spirituality. He balances the physical with the transcendental, while exploring the human condition in relation to built, natural and virtual environments. Physical materials such as glass and steel, and non-physical elements such as the moving image, space, light and sound are used to explore how our senses assist us to perceive, relate and respond to various environments.
Based in Melbourne, Australia, Taranto has exhibited at The Town Hall Gallery Hawthorn (2016), Frankston Art Centre (2016), c3 Contemporary Artspace (2016), Craft Victoria (2014), Counihan Gallery (2013 – 2016), Seventh (2013) and BUS projects (2011). He was shortlisted for a major public sculpture commission in 2014 and in 2012-2013 exhibited in the Gertrude Street Projection Festival. He has completed artist residencies in Spain (2012), Fiji (2015) and Coburg, Vic (2016). Taranto graduated from The Victorian College of the Arts in 2010.
